There are a lot of terrible people in the Final Fantasy series, and their actions and reasons are often pretty dark.
Most people don’t think that a series like Final Fantasy will have any dark or upsetting themes. After all, the series has set the standard for what JRPGs are all about, with epic high-fantasy worlds where a group of misfit adventurers face bigger and worse threats along their journey until they meet a villain who wants to destroy the whole world for bad reasons.
But players shouldn’t think this game is easy in the least. After all, Final Fantasy has often put in characters who are so bad that killing them is one of the best parts of the game.
Sephiroth – Final Fantasy 7
Sephiroth’s story is one of the saddest in the series. When he found out that he was made by injecting Jenova cells into Lucrecia Crescent’s unborn child, he understood that he wasn’t a normal person like he thought he was.
This made him lose his mind before he realized that he was part of a better race and needed to go back to his mother. This made him think that people were less important, and the terrible things he did as a result are hard to accept.
Ultimecia – Final Fantasy 8
Ultimecia is a bad guy in Final Fantasy 8 who seems to appear out of nowhere. Even though her presence may not convince most people that this villain is dangerous, there’s no denying that her ability to control people’s minds and make them do what she wants is pretty creepy when you think about the effects.
But what’s really scary is that her final goal is to shrink time and space itself. She wanted to make the world into almost nothing, and when they saw Squall with a hole where his face should have been, many people thought she had done it.
Kefka Palazzo – Final Fantasy 6
Kefka is one of the best bad guys in Final Fantasy history. At first glance, this clown really does look like a fool, but then he does a bunch of horrible things. He poisoned Cyan’s town without a care in the world, which is terrible and shows that he didn’t care about people’s lives.
But the worst thing Kefka ever did was to upset the balance of the Warring Triad, which caused the world to be destroyed and turned into something that no one could recognize. The World of Ruin is scary to look at and shows how terrible and wrong Kefka’s action was.
Jenova – Final Fantasy 7
Jenova is one of the most evil things in Final Fantasy 7. This evil invader crashed on Planet and killed all of the Cetra by himself, which caused a lot of trouble on Planet.
Shinra found Jenova again, and she caused trouble again. This time, she used Sephiroth to almost destroy the Planet. This creature would have reached its goal if not for Cloud and his friends.
Sin – Final Fantasy 10
Sin is a bad thing that seems to cause a lot of trouble in Spira. Sacrificing a summoner and their companion is the only way to get some brief peace. The consequences of living in a world that can be destroyed so quickly by this huge monster are pretty scary.
The heroes have to work very hard to finally get rid of Sin and stop it from destroying the world for good. Sin’s constant threat makes the people of Spira panic and sends a wave of fear through them, which is reasonable given how dangerous this monster is.
Don Corneo – Final Fantasy 7
Don Corneo’s harem and the creepy rooms in his house should show how scary this member of the criminal underworld is. He treats women like they are things. He chooses poor girls to spend the night with him and then does horrible things to them.
Cloud was able to avoid him, but that doesn’t change the fact that Don Corneo is one of the worst people around and doesn’t deserve to be treated with any respect. In Wutai, it’s rewarding to see Reno finally get rid of him for good.
Dr. Lugae – Final Fantasy 4
Dr. Lugao is one of the cruelest people in Final Fantasy 4, even though he seems like a fool when players fight him. He killed Edge’s parents and turned them into twisted Chimerae that make it hard for their son to fight for them.
But it looks like Lugae didn’t stop there. He even tried to experiment on his own body. Halfway through, he turned into a nightmare monster and became a tough boss fight where Drive Mad players had to plan carefully to avoid an easy game over.
Professor Hojo – Final Fantasy 7
The number of times Square Enix has used the “sadistic professor” trope in their games shows that they really like it. The best example of this is Professor Hojo, a character who has done so many terrible things that it would be nearly impossible to name them all.
The fight against him is a satisfying way for players to get rid of the man who is at the heart of most of Final Fantasy 7’s problems. He’s the reason why Vincent turned into a vampire and why Sephiroth went crazy, and players will have to beat up his mutated body to have a chance of beating this horrible bad guy.
